In an era where we live in unbridled consumerism, one day I find myself opening my grandmother's trunk to savor the charm and art of yesterday: quality fabrics (linen, cotton, muslin, Flanders) characterized by precious embroidery and carvings that still shine after years.
It is the dowry that was prepared with such dedication (blankets, towels, tablecloths, doilies).
A dive into the past and the desire to revive so much beauty, today no longer as commonly used as in the past, leads me to create unique, Made in Italy quality garments of high artisanal and artistic value. Each creation includes a memory linked to the values created by the skilled hands of grandmothers, giving it new life, lasting over time in a fashion sense.

OUR HEART PROJECT:
"THE GRANDMOTHER'S TRUNK"
We have combined two words that are very closely linked to each other: TRUNK + GRANDMOTHER. The trunk of the kit today recalls ancient Sicilian traditions; the grandparents as they metaphorically recall the era in which the dowry was a custom.
This is where our project was born"THE GRANDMOTHER'S TRUNK“: let's re-evaluate the pieces that each of us Sicilians and non-Sicilians keep in the trunk that hasn't been opened for years or that we don't even remember having anymore, giving new life to the latter.
We therefore support research and ancient tradition that favors the creation of unique and non-replicable tailored garments by reclaiming this ancient art of "trouss" which, once worn, comes back to life, giving it new life.
THE GRANDMOTHER'S TRUNK is characterized by numerous principles that constitute good practices of the circular economy linked to sustainability: elimination of textile waste and unuse, promoting the conservation and protection of the territory at an artisanal/artistic and cultural level and promotion of recycling, reuse , reinvention and much more.
These garments as well as fashion accessories that we create with this project are a tribute to the tradition of Sicilian embroidery, mixing it with the contemporaneity of Made in Sicily design and our tailoring: INNOVATION in TRADITION.
"IL BAULE DELLA NONNA" project, born in 2019, was presented for the first time at the 86th edition of MIDA 2022 (International Crafts Exhibition) in Florence during the exhibition event promoted by CNA FEDERMODA within the initiative “MADE IN ITALY: ECONOMIC, SOCIAL, ETHICAL VALUE – SEWING, PLOTING, ORDERING, WEAVING, TRAINING… ETHICS!
In April 2024 it was presented and paraded, for the first time as a bride, at the most important event on the Italian wedding scene: Sì Sposa Italia Collezioni, challenging the more "traditional" bridal world: ancient Sicilian yarns and embroidery are intertwined to create unique dresses with great sentimental value.
From there we have never stopped and continue to promote our project "THE GRANDMOTHER'S TRUNK" because combining emotions, emotional and traditional bonds with tailoring and craftsmanship is part of the Syrtaria DNA.
