Syrtaria, l'Arte del Cucito® - literally Syrtaria, the Art of Sewing - creates tailored & artisanal garments and coordinated Made in Italy accessories with Made in Sicily designs and beyond.
It is located in the heart of the island of Ortigia - Syracuse (Italy).

The colours, scents and folklore typical of Mediterranean tradition and culture are sources of inspiration for the artisanal and sartorial creations produced by designer Maria Claudia.
We love to consider our artisan products as CREATIONS and not as COLLECTIONS because they are timeless and seasonal.
The Sicilian crow's nest and the shawl, made to coordinate with the fabrics of the creations, become essential accessories to complete the Made by Syrtaria outfit.

Ours is a simple and traditional sartorial art.
We do not use industrial machines and we accompany the finishing of our garments with simple and manual stitches.
Nothing is to be defined as an imperfection but its craftsmanship is to be appreciated and understood.

Innovation for fabrics and prints. The subjects of the prints adopted by Syrtaria evoke age-old legends (the work of Sicilian puppets, the history of the Moor's heads and much more) but also the typical beauty of this land, Sicily, between art and history.
Tradition because preference is given to (non-industrialised) manufacturing which stands out for its sartorial craftsmanship made of needle and thread.
Syrtaria's goal is to create something unique and unrepeatable. This is why Syrtaria does not produce an infinite number of pieces of the same creation, giving the possibility of wearing something exclusive and inimitable.

This is my story. I'm Maria Claudia Schembari. since I was a child passionate about the world of fashion and beauty.
After twenty years of experience in the world of fashion in high ceremony and bridal sector, I realized that in the industrial context there is always something to shoot because every body is unique with its own shapes. So in 2019 I decided to create my brand Syrtaria l'Arte del Cucito® of which I am the designer and CEO.
I define myself as the daughter of passion, experience and "observation" of this wonderful world, which is tailoring.
My vision of the artistic world reflects the transformation of "pieces" (cited by me to recall the Sicilian meaning referring to fabric) into works of art. I consider every sartorial garment an artistic creation which, even if made with quality fabrics, will always remain a piece if it does not take shape with the Art of Sewing.
What I create is a praise to our craftsmanship as an art form that we must enhance and transmit more than ever.
Syrtaria is not just scissors, needle and thread but much and much more... it is woman, uniqueness, craftsmanship, personalisation, tailor-made, sustainability, tradition...
